T&Cs AND COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE
My charges and Terms of Business
1. I will usually charge you a fixed rate and will confirm the total charge to you at that fixed rate – please see below.
2. If the matter is very complicated I will charge at an hourly rate of £180.00. I will not commence work or charge you anything until I have either given you a fixed rate quote or given you my best estimate if I cannot give a fixed rate. I will never exceed an estimate without your authority but I may need to vary an estimate if the work is more complex than I originally envisaged.
3. My fixed rates as follows:
Basic Charge for notarisation is £90 for personal notarisation or £100 for commercial notarisation of one document by one person or company.
If I have to identify more than one person £35 per additional person.
Non commercial additional documents above one to be notarised £30, Commercial additional documents £50.00.
Obtaining Apostille for you £85.50 inc FCO fees or £110.50 if document is to be couriered abroad. You can do this yourself if you wish.
Travel if I have to go to you is £60 per hour.
b. Other fees may apply. If they do I will always advise you.
c. NO VAT is payable on any of my fees.
d. Payment is due on completion of the notarisation of the document(s) which I will do on the day I see you. I require payment either in cash or by bank transfer. Documents will be released upon receipt of payment.
Foreign Language Documents – if you want me to deal with a document in a foreign language then you will need to provide a written translation by a person competent to do so. This can be you if you have the language skills. Foreign lawyers (but not usually French lawyers) usually provide a translation with a foreign language document they have drafted so if they have not provided one ask them if they can do so. Failing all else I can get a quote for a translation for you.
It is almost always the case that you have been asked to see a notary because you have a document that needs to be used abroad. Seeing a notary is never a mere rubber-stamping exercise. The international duty of a Notary involves a high standard of care. This is not only towards the client but also to anyone who may rely on the document and to Governments or officials of other countries. These people are entitled to assume that a Notary will ensure full compliance with the relevant requirements both here and abroad; and to rely on the Notary’s register and records. Great care is essential at every stage to minimise the risks of errors, omissions, alterations, fraud, forgery, money laundering, the use of false identity, and so on.
I offer appointments during business hours and occasionally outside of business hours in exceptional circumstances. Please note that I do work part time only but I am also prepared to make home visits or visit corporate clients at their place of business. If the notarial appointments take place outside of my office I will make an additional charge to cover travelling time and expenses. Occasionally I may not be able to see you within the time frame you require, or I may decide that I am not able to act for you in which case I will advise you that that is the case and will provide you with the necessary information to locate an alternative notary.
